Discovery Days
2nd-5th graders, join us for day-long trips during school in-service days. It’s like summer camp for a day! We’ll spend the whole day outside, exploring Juneau’s awesome outdoors while playing games, learning, and having fun! Discovery Days are February 21 & 22 and March 2 & 3.
Besides our regular Discovery Days, we offer special ones to ensure we reach kids who wouldn’t normally get the opportunity. We’re really proud of this — all Juneau children should get the opportunity to learn and grow in the outdoors. If your community center would like to schedule a special Discovery Day, let us know.
Why Discovery Days? By bringing kids outside and exploring the natural world, we create an understanding of our connection to nature and a better understanding of ourselves. We promote physical fitness, mental wellness, and intellectual curiosity.
Spring Break Camp
What did Juneau look like 100 years ago? What’s it like now? How have our favorite areas changed?
Join Discovery Southeast and the Juneau-Douglas City Museum March 20-24 for a special week exploring Juneau’s past and present. The museum has a ton of cool information to share on the history of the Mendenhall Glacier, Salmon Creek, Downtown, the Treadwell area, and many more places.
Each day we’ll visit a different natural area, armed with archives from the Museum’s collection so we can see and document the change in our backyard. It will be like taking a time machine back into a wilder Alaska with a clue finding mission! Juneau is full of rich history to uncover and we are excited to have you join us. It’s going to be awesome!
