The Discovery Award

Our annual award honors a teacher who’s excelled at engaging their classroom in nature. This year we are proud to honor Harborview Elementary teacher Gwenna Corvez!

Among her many accomplishments, Gwenna succeeded in taking her kindergarten classroom outdoors last year every single week. The benefits for her students are tremendous. As she puts it:

“When children are outside with space to roam they become more inquisitive, self-directed and cooperative, they stay focused for extended amounts of time, they become more capable and confident, and they have fun.”
