Discovery Southeast is opening one or more seats on its Board of Directors for the 2026-2029 term. We are looking for thoughtful, engaged community members who are excited to help sustain and grow nature-based learning opportunities for children and families in Juneau.

As we continue to expand access to nature-based education for all children in Juneau, we would love to strengthen our board. We are especially hoping to connect with individuals who bring:

  • Non-profit and small business management background
  • Financial and accounting oversight
  • Media and outreach
  • Cultural or traditional connection to place

We believe that the strongest boards reflect the communities they serve. We welcome people from all backgrounds, ages, professions, neighborhoods, and life experiences, and we value the different perspectives each person brings. No one is expected to check every box on the list above. Some board members contribute professional expertise, while others bring community connections, lived experience, or a passion for our mission. Together, these different strengths help us make better decisions and build a stronger future for Discovery Southeast.

Serving on the Discovery Southeast Board is an opportunity to help steward and strengthen a program that has connected generations of Juneau children and families with the natural world. Board members provide governance and oversight, participate in committee and board work, and serve as advisors and ambassadors for the organization. We ask all board members to contribute annually to Discovery Southeast at a level that is personally meaningful to them and by maintaining an active membership. As a working board, we are looking for individuals who are ready to share their expertise, lend their voice, and contribute meaningfully to ensuring that Juneau’s children and families continue to have access to transformative outdoor learning experiences.
