After-care

For the weeks of July 22 and July 29, we’re offering a new “after care” program for Outdoor Explorers summer camp.  This provides care for kids from the time camp ends (3:30) to the time parents get off work (by 5:30).

We’ll continue to explore outdoors, but will focus on options closer to home for this short time.  For example, we may garden, play games at Twin Lakes, or work on crafts.  This is open only to families enrolled in those weeks of regular camp, and the same general format, policies, and expectations of regular camp apply.

Please review the details in the “Description” tab below.  Some highlights:

  • This is open to any child currently enrolled in these two weeks of camp: July 22nd-26th and July 29th-August 2nd.
  • Regular tuition is $50/week, but if that isn’t appropriate for your family, you can name your own price.

Discovery Days

Join us to explore outdoors! Discovery Days provide day-long field trips in nature during school holidays and in-services.  As with all our programs, the emphasis is on observation, science, and open exploration. Generally with transportation in our 15 passenger van, groups spend each day exploring different places in Juneau’s wonderful back yard.

Current offerings are:

  • November 1 & 2,  for children in grades 2-5.  8:30am drop off, and 4:00pm pickup, both at Twin Lakes (Caouette skating cabin).  Using our van, we’ll explore different locations in Juneau.
  • November 1 & 2, for children in grades 3-5. Site specific Discovery Days. Nov 1 at Glacier Valley Elementary, Nov. 2 at Mendenhall River Elementary.

Registration for the November 1 & 2 Discovery Days will close on Oct. 29th.

Full tuition is $50 per day for the regular Discovery Days, and $45 for the shorter site-specific days.  But pay whatever price is right for your family.  Name your price below. When enrolling multiple children or days, please list the price you’ll pay per child, per day. The internet will do the math.

To enroll, please add each date to your cart, then check out (even if the amount due is $0). Upon check out you’ll receive a link to our online Participant Agreement, which you need to complete at least 10 days before the Discovery Day(s).  Please preview it and more info below in the “Description” tab.

If a day is full (or “Out of Stock”), you can join our waitlist here.

K/1 Summer Program

The littles get to play with Discovery this summer at Auke Rec! Our K/1 camp is designed for children going into either kindergarten or first grade and will run June 24-28th from 9am-1pm. Our open format allows inquiry-based STEM learning, and plenty of unstructured time to explore and enjoy. We will be outside playing in the creek, taking short walks through the forest, tide-pooling, building, creating, and having fun outside!

*This camp is half-day and begins and ends at Auke Recreation Area, not Discovery Southeast’s usual meeting spot!

Please review the details, participant agreement, cancellation policy, and more info in the “Description” tab below.  Some highlights:

  • Grades listed are the grades the child is going into.
  • Regular tuition is $200, but if that isn’t appropriate for your family, you can name your own price. *This year we’ll ask anyone paying $100 or less to apply for the city-wide scholarship funds.
  • After registering you’ll need to complete our Participant Agreement, noted below in the “Description” tab.

If a week is full (”out of stock”) sign up for our waitlist. We take children from the waitlist regularly.
