30th Anniversary Award Banquet

–Our Banquet was Cancelled but the Auction is Online, click here!-

Dear Friends of Discovery Southeast,

For 30 years Discovery Southeast has created safe and engaging environments for kids, teachers, and families alike. In light of the expanding COVID-19 coronavirus, we’ve decided not to hold our annual Award Banquet & Auction as planned this Saturday.

Many of us are vulnerable to this disease, and it simply does not make sense to hold a community-building event that a large segment of our community cannot comfortably or safely attend. Further, this disease is serious and we do not want to take actions that put the health of Southeast Alaskans at risk.

Here’s what’s next:

  1. With tremendous enthusiasm and gratitude, but in a different format, we look forward to recognizing Gwenna Corvez, our 2020 Discovery Award recipient! Gwenna is a kindergarten teacher at Harborview Elementary dedicated to integrating outside learning as a part of her teaching practice. Congratulate and thank her next time you see her, and read more about Gwenna here.
  2. The auction portion of our program will go online soon, and we hope you’ll still consider bidding. Many generous businesses and families have donated auction items, and the funds raised from them are essential to Discovery Southeast programs, this year more than ever.
  3. In the coming days we’ll reach out to those who already purchased tickets for the event. You’ll have the option of a refund or rolling your purchase into a donation to cover the already-purchased event food, which will be donated to the Glory Hall.

We’re all in this together and want to take the long view—we’re celebrating 30 years of Discovery Southeast only because we’re looking forward to many more decades of hands-on nature education and meaningful connections for Southeast Alaska kids! Thank you for being the support that makes this possible.
