2017 Gustavus Summer Camp

Suggested Price: $200.00

Discovery Southeast summer camp is thrilled to come to Gustavus!

After decades of summer camp in Juneau, Discovery Southeast is looking forward to a week of camp in Gustavus as well! Join a Discovery Southeast naturalist and parent volunteer for a week of hiking, berry picking, nature crafts, and more during our summer day camp, July 24-28, 2017. This camp is open to all children staying in Gustavus during the week, age 7-11.  (Please note, this is a day camp.  Discovery Southeast is not providing meals or accommodations).

Camp will begin at each day at 9am, and will run until 4pm. Drop-off and pick-up will be at a central location (likely 4 corners), and we will explore a different part of Gustavus or the park each day. Transportation during the day will be in a 15 passenger van, provided by the Beartrack Inn. In addition to hiking, beach combing, and open exploration time, we will meet with local artists and naturalists to learn how other members of our community connect to the natural landscape that surrounds us.

Since Southeast weather changes rapidly, you can help your child prepare for a great week of camp by packing rain gear, warm layers, lunch, a snack, and a water bottle each day.  Please read the Description section below for more details, including cancellation policy.

Participant Agreement, including Medical Information, Risk Acknowledgement, and Legal Waivers:

After registering you’ll receive a link to our online Participant Agreement, which needs to be completed more than 10 days before the expedition starts. We recommend you take a moment now to look over a copy, so you’re comfortable with it before registering. Registration is voluntary, so if you don’t agree with the terms there, please don’t register, and instead let us know at info@discoverysoutheast.org.

 Expectations:
  • Please be prepared to be active outdoors.
  • Bring clothes for the weather… usually rain gear, boots, warm layers, and a change of clothes. *If these are hard to come by, just let us know; we have clothing to loan or give.
  • We expect participants to behave in a manner that does not jeopardize the group’s safety or our ability to offer meaningful programs for all participants.

Cancellations:

  • If Discovery Southeast has to cancel because not enough children are enrolled, we will notify you at least 9 days in advance, and provide a full refund of any fees paid.
  • If you cancel more than 10 days in advance, there’s a $25 cancellation fee.
  • If you cancel 10 or fewer days in advance, refund is only possible if we can fill your spot, and if so there’s still the $35 cancellation fee.
  • If you don’t submit a completed Participant Agreement within 10 days of the program beginning, or you are not allowed to participate due to behavior reasons, that is considered a non-refundable cancellation.
