Discovery Days

Registration for October Discovery Days is now closed.

**if you received an email today about registering for Thursday at Fish Creek (grades 3-5), that program is still open for those specific families.

We’re excited to have you join us to explore outdoors! Discovery Days offer half-day and day-long outdoor programs exploring Juneau’s parks and natural areas. Groups will hike, explore, build, and learn outdoor skills and knowledge.

The recommended/full tuition is $50 for a Discovery Day, $25 for a half day. However, we proudly offer sliding scale tuition; enter the amount that’s right for you.

When enrolling multiple children, please list the price you’ll pay per child. The internet will do the math. You’ll receive a link to our online Participant Agreement, which you need to complete at least 5 days before the Discovery Day(s).  Please view the details and more info below in the “Description” tab.

If the day is full (or “Out of Stock”), you can join our waitlist here. We usually end up adding participants from the waitlist, so do sign up if interested.

**Participants may register for only 1 program**

Cost:

Regular tuition for the Discovery Day is $50 for full day, $25 for half day, or $50 for a two session half day. However, we proudly offer sliding scale tuition.  If that amount is not appropriate for your family right now, just enter the amount you’d like to pay, per child.

What we will be doing:

The group will be exploring the forests, bogs, and beaches of Juneau. They will hike according the the desires and limitations of the group, build with natural materials, play games like Wolf Pack hide and seek, and learn about the plants and animals of Southeast Alaska.

What is Discovery doing for the pandemic?

This will be our second summer operating Outdoor Explorers during the coronavirus pandemic. We have reviewed and updated our Pandemic protocols as of June 18th, 2021.

Discovery Days will take place exclusively outdoors. We will be minimizing supplies to avoid touching similar items, avoiding group transportation, and supporting social distancing and mask-wearing when in sustained close contact.

Those with symptoms of COVID-19, or living with someone exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms, will not be able to take part in camp. Upon arrival to camp each day, we will conduct a health screening of each participant. We expect parents and children to answer these questions on a daily basis and let us know if anyone in their household develops symptoms of COVID-19.

For the safety of our staff and other participants, we ask that you cover your face at drop off and pick up and maintain at least 6 ft from anyone outside of your household.

Participant Agreement, including Medical Information, Risk Acknowledgement, and Legal Waivers:

After registering you’ll receive a link to our online Participant Agreement, which needs to be completed more than 10 days before the program starts. We recommend you take a moment now to look over a copy, so you’re comfortable with it before registering. You can fill out the Participant Agreement Form here. Registration is voluntary, so if you don’t agree with the terms there, please don’t register and instead, let us know at info@discoverysoutheast.org.

Expectations:

  • Please pack a sack lunch, water, snack, and a cloth face covering.
  • Bring clothes for the weather: rain gear, boots, warm layers, and a change of clothes. *If these are hard to come by, just let us know; we have clothing to loan or give.
  • We expect children to behave in a manner that does not jeopardize the group’s safety or our ability to offer meaningful programs for all participants.
  • We are often away from the use of any facilities, so children should be prepared to go to the bathroom in the woods. Staff will support your child in learning this ‘outdoor skill’ while maintaining privacy.

Cancellations:

  • If you cancel, there’s a $15 cancellation fee.
