Camp Descriptions
June 4-8
- 7-12 y.o.: Rocks. This week will be spent exploring the world under our feet, learning about rocks and how they fit into our lives. We will visit riverbeds, beaches, and cliffs and carry out investigations to figure out what makes rocks different from one another.
June 11-15
- 7-12 y.o.: Adventure. For those looking for some more excitement in their summer days. There will be something adventurous every day: canoeing, rock climbing, treasure hunts, and more!
June 18-22
- 7-12 y.o.: Ocean. Get ready for some tide pooling, wetland wandering, and marine mammal research. Trips include NOAA, DIPAC, and beaches all over Juneau. We will play in the sand, catch some plankton, and search for whales.
- 10-12 y.o.: Overnight (cabin to cabin). A mission to Point Bridget State Park. The first day will be spent preparing and then on day two we will depart with full backpacks and travel to a new cabin each night. The journey starts at camping cove, then to Cowee meadow and the final night at blue mussel.
June 25-29
- 7-12 y.o.: Photo. For kids who love to take pictures, no experience necessary. We will find waterfalls, wildflowers, and hopefully some wildlife to practice the art of a beautiful shot. We will learn how to take action shots, close-ups, landscapes and portraits from Discovery photographers as well as local experts.
- 7-9 y.o.: Animal. Ermine and porpoise and bears- oh my! Spend the week learning about the fascinating animals that call Juneau home, from the mountains to the ocean. Lots of games, exploration, and detective work.
- 12-14 y.o.: Kayak Expedition. A 5 day, 4-night paddle out-the-road. More info here.
BYE WEEK
July 9-13
- 7-12 y.o.: Outdoor Skills. Can you thrive in the wilderness? This week is all about living in the wild: building shelter, fire, navigation and locating wild foods.
- 12-14 y.o.: Kayak Expedition. A 5 day, 4-night paddle out-the-road. More info here.
July 16th-20th
- 10-12 y.o.: Peak week. Get your hiking boots ready! This week we will be exploring the alpine, looking for marmots and taking in the view. A different peak each day, a week for true Alaskan adventurers.
- 7-12 y.o.: Adventure Hikers. For those not ready for peaks every day, this camp will involve hiking goals each day. Get ready to walk, skip, hop through the forested trails and along the beaches of Juneau. Can we make goals that we can reach?
July 23-27
- 7-12 y.o.: Salmon. We will travel from ocean to stream to forest learning about salmon in Southeast. Fishing, dissection, storytelling, and trips to NOAA, DIPAC, and Taku smokeries show how important this fish is in where we live.
July 30th-August 3rd

- 7-12 y.o.: Botany/wild edibles. This is where the real naturalists are in their element. With trips to Glacier Gardens, the Arboretum, and through the meadows, forests, and wetlands we will learn about the amazing plants that grow here. Berry picking anyone?

August 6-10
- 7-12 y.o.: Maps/Orienteering Camp. Where are we? This week we will explore the basics of maps, compasses, and orienteering. We’ll play Frisbee Orienteering, find ourselves on maps, make our own maps and have a treasure hunt at the end of the week!
- 10-12 y.o.: Peak week. Get your hiking boots ready! This week we will be exploring the alpine, looking for marmots and taking in the view. A different peak each day, a week for true Alaskan adventurers.
August 13-17
- 7-12 y.o.: Stream Science Week. Do you like to find out what’s living in the creeks? This week we will focus on our local streams. Water quality tests, animal counts, stream mapping are some of the science activities we will be doing this week. Wear your tallest rain boots!
