Donations to support former Visitor Center staff

The federal government’s recent mass firings have been significant both nationally and locally. Over half of the federal employees in the Juneau Ranger District appear to be terminated, and of those at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center, with whom we partner in education, only a couple employees remain.

We’ve appreciated working with these employees over the past years. Their dedication and support daily at the Visitor Center underpins our bookstore there, funding our education programs for local kids. And thousands of Juneau kids have benefitted from the rangers’ direct participation in our summer camps and school programs too.

As a fellow community member it’s hard to know what do to and how to help. We know many of these individuals are just starting their careers in education and public service and are still finding their financial footing. Others are mid-career with mortgages and important obligations to which we can all relate.

Acknowledging this is a small fish in a big ocean, if you would like to donate to support those employees who are now without a job, you may do so here and we will disburse the funds as equitably as we can.
