Description
Get ready for Spring Break Camp!
What to bring:
Important note: Each child is responsible for carrying their own backpack throughout the program day, so please be mindful of this when packing.
- A daypack
- A full water bottle (at least 1 liter total)
- Lunch and snacks (pack more than you think — kids get hungry outside!)
- Footwear: rubber/snow/hiking boots (depending on weather)
- Rain/snow jacket and pants (depending on weather)
- Warm insulation layer like a sweatshirt or fleece to go on top of a t-shirt
- Warm socks, hat, and mittens/gloves on cold and/or snowy days
- Extra pair of socks and a full change of clothes in a sealed plastic bag
Please do not bring: any electronics (including phones and smart watches), toys, or knives
If any of these items are hard to come by, please let us know. We have gear to lend and lunches to share!
What to expect:
The group will spend the entire day outside, rain or shine, exploring parks and natural areas around Juneau. Activities will include hiking, building with natural materials, playing games like Sneaky Squirrel, and learning about local plants and animals.
Participants must behave in a manner that does not jeopardize the group’s safety or our ability to offer meaningful programs for all participants.
Children should be prepared to go to the bathroom in the woods. Staff will support your child in learning this “outdoor skill’ while maintaining privacy.
If your child could benefit from 1:1 adult supervision for all or part of the day, please provide details in your Participant Agreement. We aim to provide extra support when possible.
Future programs:
We have a full summer ahead! Our 2025 camp lineup and important registration details are now available here.
Participant Agreement, including Medical Information, Risk Acknowledgement, and Legal Waivers:
After registering, you’ll receive a link to our online Participant Agreement, which needs to be completed once a year, and at least 10 days before the program starts (or within a day of registering if you register inside of 10 days). If your child participated in summer camp or fall Discovery Days in 2024 we don’t need a new Participant Agreement from you, unless you need to update any information. Otherwise, please fill out the form here. If you would like time to review it before you sign, a PDF version is available there as well. Registration is voluntary, so if you don’t agree with the terms there, please don’t register, and instead, let us know at info@discoverysoutheast.org.
Cancellations:
We offer a refund minus a $10 cancellation fee if if you cancel more than 10 days in advance, or if you cancel 10 or fewer days in advance and we are able to fill your spot from the waitlist. However, if your cancellation is 10 or fewer days in advance and we cannot fill the spot, there is no refund. Email info@discoverysoutheast.org for cancellations.
Discovery Days and Spring Break Camp are possible thanks to a community of support.
This program is partially funded by the citizens of the City and Borough of Juneau through sales tax revenues.
